I am a currently a working civil engineer specializing in bridge design (steel and concrete structures). I received scores of 760 in Math on both the SAT I and II, and a score of 800 in Math on the GRE's. I have taken several high level calculus, engineering mathematics, and statistics classes at the University of Delaware, aside from receiving a 5 on both the Calculus and the Statistics AP Exams. I have tutored elementary students in the past, and was part of a 'teaching scientists' after school company briefly in college.
I believe in talking through problems using visual ideas and simplified concepts. I prefer teaching with graphics and concepts, and then relating them to formulas and equations. While I expect hard work from my students, I also have the patience to help them understand at their own pace.

I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. My initial approach is to ascertain exactly where the student stands prior to starting any course work. Students can be and are easily frustrated with work that is either beyond their ability or more advanced. Frustration can be either eliminated or reduced when students have a better understanding of their work. Everyone does not learn at the same pace or through the same exposure to material. Since acheiving my first accounting designation from the UK in 1991 I have taught accounting and Business Law to adults until 1998 when I migrated to the US. While here I was succesful in passing my CPA exams and I am now a member in good stabding with AICPA and Delaware Society of CPAs. I have been tutoring my relatives kids in math and science for over 4 years. One child is now in High School while 2 are in Middle School. Under my tutelage, the middle schoool kids have been able to make the honor roll whenever they put in practice what is taught. The usual success rate in making the honor roll is 70%.
My tutoring style depends on whether the child learns better with visual aids or by other means. I also assess their weaknesses and determine if it is caused by lack of comprehension,fear of the subject matter or a lack of preparation.
