During my 23 years of teaching I implemented Kindergarten through 6th grade New York State curriculum in a classroom setting. I attended workshops that focused on computer education, Multiage classroom and positive discipline. I believe children learn best when they can form a connection to their school work. Writing skills can be improved by using topics that are relevant to the student's life. When working on Reading skills I often use high interest topics such as the arts, sports, computers and science to encourage students to excel. Math can also become more meaningful by using real life situations and manipulatives. It is my goal to increase students' self esteem by providing situations in which they can succeed.

I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I work best with motivated students, even those with lower abilities, though I teach exclusively at the high school level and above. I am patient and one of my greatest assets is in analology; I have a profound ability to take complex ideas and make them simple. I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor! I graduated high school in 2000 with a local diploma and then went on to college at Utica School of Commerce. I graduated in 2002 with an Associated Degree as an Administrative Specialist. I have worked at a few different jobs and just went back to college again at Utica School of Commerce and got my certificate degree as a Medical Office Assistant.

I am a strong believer in relational learning and that is why I support the concept of tutoring. One-on-one instructional guidance from someone who knows and respects you is a great motivation for learning to take place. I am a patient, sympathetic, and loving person, but I also like to push myself and others to accomplish the most that they are capable of achieving.
