Personal, comprehensive, and dedicated tutoring!

Attentive, patient, hands-on. Beginning with a strong comprehension of foundational concepts (or “the why”) and working through practical examples until student understands the topic from beginning to end. Personalization is important! Kids learn in different ways! The best way to teach effectively, in my opinion, is to reach a full understanding of both the topic and the student.
Current student at Columbia University. Have tutored my little siblings extensively. Both my parents are teachers and I have carefully studied how to make complex/challenging topics more accessible. I studied through the ACT on my own and raised my personal score from a 30 to a 35 in 5 months. I have firsthand, recent experience of what works to improve a standardized test score.

Graduated from wright state university in 1993 with a bachelors of science degree in mechanical engineering. I have worked the past 16 years in the automotive industry mainly as a manufacturing supervisor. Also, since high school have volunteered abd served on 2 fire departments as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. I enjoy teaching young adults the education and work experiences I have obtained the past 20 years.

I believe in starting with the basics in all things. Reading starts with Phonics, and writing starts with Spelling and Vocabulary, as well as old-fashioned handwriting skills. An absolute staple of learning, in my opinion, is frequent reading for pleasure – whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, novels or comic books. I am patient and love to teach, even reluctant learners. I remember what it was like to not want to sit around and do schoolwork, so I don't expect children to be eager to do it. However, I know from experience that those reluctant learners can be turned into students who really enjoy discovering new information and discussing what they’ve learned. In 2005 I began a part time job as an Adult Education instructor for Sentinel Career Center where my primary focus was language arts/writing. I was part of the STAR reading program where I became certified to teach adults to read. In this program and as a GED instructor I have tutored many individuals of varying ages, education levels and backgrounds.
