I have had two years experience teaching religion at a university level. I was a teaching assistant and taught my own class. As a teaching assistant, I attended the classes, read the material, conducted study sessions, graded exams, quizzes and assignments, and helped students with material. The class I taught was Religions of the World. I developed the syllabus, created and presented the lectures, and created and graded the exams, quizzes and assignments.
I have found that students learn better when the environment is relaxed, they think critically and they write clearly. My teaching style encompasses and encourages all of these. Please do not be apprehensive or over enthusiastic about hiring me because I studied religion. I studied religion academically, not theologically. My religious beliefs have no influence on my academic or professional life.

I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus might vary for the individual or subject matter the essence remains the same. I try to envision at least 3 different ways of approaching a problem, I discuss material but let the students ask questions which I then tailor my explanations toward. Everyone sees a problem slightly differently and if you allow yourself an open mind and creative thinking often you can help them break through a difficult problem because you are able to see it their way.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved to learn new things, and as a teenager wanted to be a teacher. I have a B.S. in Dietetics with a chemistry minor, as well as an M.B.A. My role as a dietitian requires the ability to teach all ages groups, with diverse backgrounds and educational levels. After completion of my MBA, I moved into a senior leadership role. In this position, I facilitated strategic planning sessions and tutored staff who were completing BS or MS degrees in English, sciences, quality, writing, and business classes.
In groups, I like to have many examples and participation from the audience. As a manager and mentor, I also prefer to teach a concept and return to it when the student has an opportunity to use it in their work. It is important to be able to adjust your teaching style to the needs of the student, and I love the challenge of being able to do this.
