I also worked for four years as a elementary teacher for Douglas County School District, in which I was responsible for organizing and following state and district K-2 curriculum. More recently, I have been employed at Family Support Council of Douglas County to teach adults in a variety of classes. I designed my own parenting and support classes for adults. I am a registered Professional Civil Engineer and have worked managing construction projects around the world. I am proficient in math and english and enjoy showing others how to improve their lives through education. Albeit I have not taught in a school system, I have taught my own three children in our own home school. I really like children and love seeing the light go on when they finally comprehend the area of study that has been troubling them. Upon matriculation at Colby, I enrolled in organic chemistry and decided to major in chemistry. I continued my studies in chemistry and additional areas of interest, including math, government, and economics. Before graduating I participated in an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at UC Riverside. With the guidance of my primary investigator and a grad student, I gained experience doing research into the fabrication of nano-structures (in this case, reusable and gas-specific sensing devices, or an "e-nose").
