I have taught preschool,elementary and adult students for the past 8 years. As a preschool teacher, I developed my own curriculum and taught 3 year olds. I also worked for four years as a elementary teacher for Douglas County School District, in which I was responsible for organizing and following state and district K-2 curriculum. I am a registered Professional Civil Engineer and have worked managing construction projects around the world. I begin a lesson by asking a student what he or she knows about the topic. If they have any familiarity with the topic I ask about it and confirm or correct their preconceptions. If the subject lends itself to a real-world example or demonstration, I would offer this for thought. Finally I teach the core concept, connecting it to other concepts already understood by the student. There is usually more than one way to teach a concept. I take into account the learning style of the student. Written or diagrammatic methods might be more effective than verbal explanations. Pnemonics can be useful, but only if the underlying concepts are first taught.

I spent 3 years subsituting in the Sacramento USD system while I went to school for my credentials. I love helping people achieve their dreams and goals and I have high expectations for all children and adults I am teaching.
