While an undergraduate at Maryland I tutored students and helped my friends in chemistry and math. When I went to Graduate School I taught lab and two discussion sections, making sure the students understood the lecture material from the Professor. I have knowledge in general chemistry as well as extensive knowledge of Organic Chemistry. I tutored my daughter by helping her understand the underlying reasons for a reaction vs. just memorizing a huge list of organic reactions.
My style is to focus on the reason for a reaction so you can extrapolate what will happen with materials your have not seen before. This was the technique used when I took graduate level organic courses at Maryland.

My "ace in the hole" in teaching is the fact that I care for students and they know it. I do make it well known that I am there to teach; not be their friend (or their parent!).
