A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Science. While at Coastal I co-founded a Shark Research Club and performed population studies on sharks in Winyah Bay, SC. After graduation I worked at a Shark Research facility in South Bimini, Bahamas, where I worked hands on with Doctorate students on various projects. I am currently a Science Instructor at The Newfound Harbor Marine Institute in Big Pine Key, Florida.

I am a firm believer that every student given an opportunity has the ability to learn. They also must be given an opportunity to learn in the style in which they learn the best, be it visual, auditory or hands-on. I believe and practice a constructivist model of learning. I see multicultural education as a way of reaching all students so that they have an equal opportunity to learn. My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I then obtained a position as a youth counselor with the YMCA and quickly moved up to Site Coordinator where I was in charge of my own after school care group, including being in charge of organizing activities and managing youth counselors. Most recently I underwent PADI Divemaster training where I had real world experience teaching and assisting PADI Open Water students with classroom, confined water, and open water training.
