I prefer to work with small groups of students or individuals as it is easier to meet each student's needs. I am very concise and methodical, but am also sensitive enough to pace myself according to the student's needs. Of course, experience is the best teacher, so I usually review the points that the student has questions on, provide an example of the principles in action, and then help the student work through some problems until he or she understands satisfactorily. As such, I have found that I am very good at teaching math and math-based science as well as languages.

As a tutor, I believe it is crucial to get students to actively participate in the process. Experience has taught me that students do not respond well to long lectures; instead, I teach by asking questions and encouraging students to find the answers for themselves. I am able to explain concepts that children do not understand, but I insist that they attempt to work through problems first. My experience with special populations includes: three years full-time on the Navajo Reservation; three years part-time at the SALT Center at the University of Arizona working with learning disabled students; and a hands-on nature camp for deaf middle-schoolers.
