College grad with teaching/tutoring experience; kid-friendly

I prefer a hands-on approach, especially with science and math. I believe an education is more than memorizing definitions but understanding and being able to apply concepts broadly. I have found children grasp a concept better when they are allowed to explore concrete applications instead of studying abstract ideas. A typical tutoring session would include a review of classroom material, an experiment or observation applying that information, and homework formatted to the style his or her teacher's testing style. However, each child learns differently and adjustments will be made to more closely fit each individuals learning style and needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a passion for learning as well as sharing my knowledge with others. I obtained a BA in Mathematics and am currently working on MAT in Mathematics. While in college I was part of a tutoring/mentoring program and helped my peers with math. I also had an opportunity to prepare high school students for the Alabama Grad Exam during a summer session with the Upward Bound Program. I enjoy teaching one-on-one and have found this to be the most effective in regards to my students success. I believe that every student can do well in math but every student has a different pace. I try to adapt to each student's pace/learning style as I explain a new concept.
After completing my MS in Mathematics from CSU East Bay, I began tutoring high school students privately.
