My comments on tutoring Special Education : Chess

I am from Kazakhstan but familiar with chess in US. My title is candidate master with FIDE ELO 2236, the information about me is on the website http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=13700820 My last succesful FIDE rated games are on the website http://ratings.fide.com/view_games.phtml?id=137008 20&name=%22Ten__Viktor(KAZ)%22 where I reached the IM norm. I spent about about 10 months in Cornell University in 2008-2009 years as Fulbright Visiting Scientist with doing chess things, mainly, in Syracuse University. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed assisting our youth work through various academic endeavors. I have been tutoring grades k-12 for several years now. I have helped all ages with a wide variety of assignments.
My teaching style varies based on the age of the student. I like to be a little more animated with my k-6 graders. On the other hand, with my 7-12 graders I focus more so on making a connection with the material--showing them how it relates to them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children, I believe all children can learn, but in different ways. I've worked with children in many differnt areas of education and with children on many different levels. My focus was on children with disabilities and speech/language disorders. I've worked with children w/developmental delays and regular education children. I've also served as a tutor to children in my area w/learning disabilities. I have a BS in Speech Pathology w/a minor in Special education and I am currently working on my MS Ed in School Counseling. I will graduate from the Univ of Southern MS in May 2011. I've tutored children in English, Math, Science, and Reading.
