An excellent teacher and listener who enjoys sharing knowled

I enjoy passing on my skills and knowledge to others. I have trained many apprentices in baking as a professional and conducted many classes. Every day I am teaching customers how to use their television equipment and their computers correctly. I am very patient and enjoy the rewards of successfully passing on my knowledge to others. Friends call me regularly from all over the country for advise on their computers, video devices and random trivia questions .
I am currently employed as a technical advisor for Charter Communications for video and Internet. I originally was a math major and a math and history honor student at the University of Houston in the early 70's. I left school to start a family bakery in Vermont followed by award winning bakeries in Northern California and Utah. My comments on tutoring Life Science : I hold a Ph.D in a Life Science discipline.

I believe that stimulating conversation and allowing people to arrive at answers on their own and through experience is the best way to form lasting connections.
I took a variety of Biology classes and Labs at WPI mostly focused on Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics. I recently finished my PH.D. where I studied control of viral gene expression. This work encompassed a variety of biological disciplines including virology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics, all of which I am quite experienced in. I also have experience teaching in a seminar format as well as in small groups. As a senior graduate student I was responsible for leading discussions prior to invited speaker seminars.

I am seeking a degree in Finance and Actuarial Sciences from the University of Connecticut. I achived a high level of proficiency in math from a very young age and finish Advanced Calc 3 and a half years ago. I have tutored a student for his entire second year of high school in all subjects with noticable GPA improvements.
I developed a patient style of simply allowing a student to set his own pace yet make sure he lives up to his own promises. Making lasting commetments allowes the student to take controle of his own improvement, yet allows me to see what he need direction in. In showing the student alternative practices, he will see the benifit in changing his ways for the better.

My focuses as an educator have been in the sciences and in the education of disadvantaged youth. While completing a graduate degree in natural resources at the University of Connecticut, I worked as a teaching assistant and tutored undergraduates at the University Writing Center. Later, I became the education coordinator at a shelter for homeless families. There, I managed education programs for homeless children ranging in ages from one through sixteen years. I then completed a masters degree in science education and worked as an eighth grade science teacher for a year. I have just recently returned to my position at the family shelter, and currently hold CT teaching certifications in biology and general science.
My approach to teaching is to show my students how learning is relevant to their lives because students will more fully engage in their education if they believe the ... read more

I am very enthusiastic, patient, and creative. I connect the child’s prior knowledge and interests to the concepts being learned. I understand that children arrive at school with varying interests, different ability levels, learning styles, and from diverse backgrounds. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. My teaching style involves a hands-on approach with many real world examples, games, and interactive activities. I structure activities with clear guidelines, model the task, and discuss along the way. My goal is to make learning fun and meaningful while enhancing their knowledge of the world around them.
As a teacher, I enjoy being a positive role model. I have a BS in psychology and elementary education, which required me to take many courses in all core subject areas. My M.Ed. concentrated on ... read more

Math can be fun, especially when applied to exciting applications. For my work at NASA and the MITRE Corporation I use concepts from Calculus I-II almost everyday. Inspiring students to become excited about math and science is one of my life-long goals. Step by step visual diagrams can be effective tools for describing complex ideas. From my experience as a teacher and student I have had great success creating simple graphics to accompany otherwise dense math equations for circuits, data structures and statistics. This teaching style coupled with a fresh knowledge of math material as a graduating senior make me confident that I can be an asset to your team this summer. I will be returning to my home in Connecticut May 18th and would welcome the opportunity to and discuss starting work at Advanced Learners!

I have been extremely fortunate the last couple years to gain a lot of teaching experience through substituting and student teaching, as well as tutoring. I feel like my experiences have been well rounded, working with all grade levels, different subjects, and special education students. I am very patient and try to do whatever I can to help each of the students I work with.
Currently, I work at a learning center, where I tutor students at a 3:1 ratio in beginning reading, academic reading, math, and writing. I also tutor a 2nd grade dyslexic student once a week, and a 3rd and 5th grade student in math. I am very passionate about tutoring and love seeing the difference I make in each student's life.

I graduated from the UConn with a B.S. in physics and a minor in mathematics. Because I have used calculus and linear algebra on a daily basis as a means of solving problems I have developed a fundamental understanding of mathematics; an understanding that only someone who has used thse mathematical tools extensively can achieve. I have been tutoring for the past four years. I began tutoring at UConn my junior year and was quickly the most popular physics and calculus tutor on my shift. On several occasions I taught groups of ten or so as a class. It was then that I realized how much I liked teaching. Since I have graduated I have tutored at Sylvan Learning Center and Total Academic Center tutoring various subjects and age groups.
I am easy going, energetic, very passionate (especially when teaching calculus and physics), and engaging. In most cases it takes only a few sessions an ... read more

My primary activities during my professional career have been teaching and counseling. My experience covers clients across the lifespan: from infants in early care and education through grand- parents in post-secondary education and college courses. I have taught and tutored the basics: reading, writing, composition, comprehension, fluency, basic mathmatical functions, etc. I have also taught major required and elective courses in the field of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
As the "Summary of Experience" paragraph describes, I enjoy teaching people of all ages. I suppose my first love is working with young learners: seeing the "aha!" spark that shines when a child first absorbs a concept or masters a skill that is new, or one which has previously proved difficult. My teaching style could be described as "eclectic", in that I draw from the many resources available to find a "l ... read more
