ASL Certified Tutor

I not only tutor American Sign Language, I offer beginner instruction as well. My methods obviously differ between the two, when I tutor I facilitate a very relaxed, fun way of communicating utilizing ASL to appropriate the student's level of skill and determine which areas need work. I like letting the student be in as much control as possible as far as the pace and duration. In a teaching situation, I start with the Alphabet and with the basic building blocks of the language. Each session is then individualized week to week in order to be precursory to the next and structured based on the pace of the student.

Completing my four years at Savannah College of Art and Design, has helped me to reinsure myself that I am capable of completing all of my goals that I set for myself. The creative skills that I have had instilled in me have also been acknowledged and rewarded. I have received my Bachelor degree in Fashion as well as in Art. My teaching style varies depending on the needs of each student. Because students learn in different ways, I feel it is important to start with a basic teaching method and evolve from there for each individual child and his or her level of learning. I feel that motivation goes a long way and that students should feel rewarded for any level of progress they accomplish.
My experience includes two years of full time teaching at the PreK level. I also have experience working with grade level students through practicums, student teaching, and substitute teaching. I have assisted teachers with middle school students during a summer technical program as well. I currently hold a M.S. in Education specializing at the Elementary grade levels. I also have a B.F.A. in Photography with a minor in Journalism.
