A Little Bit About Me...

My forte is science and math, which are often students' least favorite subjects, due to earlier difficulty. A solid basic understanding of these subjects is critical to being an independent, engaged adult; and it's just plain cool to understand how the world works! I enjoy removing the fear and guiding the students to increase their competence and self-confidence. I am funny, enthusiastic and know how to use the student's background as a "hook" to pull them into the subject.
I have a BA in Psychology, MS in Zoology and BS in Computer Science. I have lifetime Arizona Community College certification in psychology, biology, ecology and remedial math. My teaching style is very simple. I want to make sure that students understand the concept, so they can succeed in their math classes. I have the ability to model concepts by providing students specific examples. I believe that everyone has the ability to do mathematics. But in order to learn mathematics, they need to get their hands dirty and work on many problems. I am also a very personable, entertaining, creative, and intelligent person to be around during tutoring sessions. I want students to learn and have fun with math.
I graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Philosophy. Currently, I am finishing my M.A. degree in Mathematics Education.
