My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : I loved reading about all the famous people when I was in grade school.

I graduated from Eastern Oregon University in 1988 and have taught elementary age for many years. I homeschooled my seven children part of that time and now they are responsible, successful people. Now I'm a retired elementary school teacher and have a half day preschool in the bottom of my home. It has it's own entrance and play yard. Love my kids! In our school, I teach sign language Zoophonics, curiosity using the inspired Reggio Emilia style, a unique method from Italy. We have lots of fun.
Reggio Emilia inspired way of learning where the children learn while they play and create. Lots of imagination and fun.

More About This Tutor...

As a junior and senior finance major, I routinely tutored fellow classmates in several finance and business courses. As a junior I showed many of my classmates how to excel in several areas of business, such as, finance, accounting, human resources, and management. As a senior I tutored many of my friends and colleagues in many finance courses, such as, portfolio management, financial engineering, and personal finance. I've never tutored for pay, which shows how dedicated I am to helping people achieve their academic goals.
My teaching style is very simple, it's teaching people the concepts at hand in a manner they can understand, because some texts and instructions can be very confusing and over explained. I enjoy making complex concepts seem easy to my students and love to watch them apply them to any problem. Once, I get my students thinking in the right manner they can solv ... read more

I have tutored others ever since I can remember helping out my peers. Teachers believed that I had an ability of not just understanding the information/assignments, but to get the everyday student to be able to understand it as well. My bachelors degree in Psychology is reflective of wanting to know the best way to interact with people and help them achieve their desired result(s). I am currently finishing my Master's Thesis at Eastern Washington University and hold a credential as a registered counselor from the State of Washington. In California, I have taught classes at the Jose Valdez Math Institute which is one of the most highly decorated math programs for junior/senior high school students in the west coast. Additionally, I have worked in Spokane School District 81 as a Youth and Community Specialist that catered toward bringing in non-traditional curriculum at the middle scho ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As "stay at home" mom of 6, I have used my two Bachelors' degrees for the education of my own children. I've taught them essential reading and writing skills, study habits, organization skills, science projects, practical application of principles, and a love of learning. I have also home schooled my children. I teach violin and piano out of the home and have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools with ESL and teaching early morning Spanish courses. I enjoy working with children and have taught children ages 4-12 in church for many years.
I love to experience the thrill of success as a child begins to understand. I enjoy seeing their confusion transform into understanding. I believe children have brilliant minds that just need to be directed or focused in a way that incorporates their frame of reference. I have seen how children become excited with learning as th ... read more

I am trained and experienced in individual, small-group, and classroom instruction and curriculum design in a variety of settings with youth in kindergarten through college. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.
I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!

A Little Bit About Me...

I integrate as many subjects as possible and seek to provide the missing schema, background experience and knowledge, that is critical to learning to a true state of understanding and mastery. Every subject is interesting to a child who can understand it and apply it. Through an understanding of social styles, learning styles, multiple intelligences and the best of brain-based research, I provide that experience to every student.
My last class was a self-contained 6th grade, with a 34% ELL and 14% special education population. My class average reading level rose from 4.6 to 7.1. Of all the students in the school who surpassed the required State testing and higher District goals in both reading and math, 75% came from my class, as did the winners of the school's essay contest, spelling bee and geography competition. My first career was in medicine where I gave direct car ... read more

Teaching is my passion and I can't imagine doing anything else. I love my students and they love me because I provide hands-on, kinesthetic, and rememorable lessons. My patience and understanding makes it easy for children to feel comfortable with me; therefore, they are more open to working with me and truly grasping the standards they must learn. My method of teaching centers around talking with the student, watching his/her habits, and learning how they learn best-visually, auditorially, kinesthecially, etc. My goal is to help students retain the study skills and habits they need to transfer over to the classroom independently.
I started teaching English-Language Arts & U.S. History in central California, where I taught 8th graders for two years. Then I moved to South Korea, where I taught ESL for one year. After that amazing experience, I moved to South Lake Tahoe and taught En ... read more

My original direction was networking until I realized the rewards of spending time with students in the classroom. Having raised two children, I volunteered several hundred hours at my son's school and found that I desired to be part the classroom experience. Changing my course of study to Elementary Education, I had taken coursework relevant to K-12 studies, assessments, management and curriculum.
I feel it is my responsibility as a teacher to help the student realize their potential by engaging my student in the learning process. It is my belief that every student has the potential to learn their material. A major benefit from my experience as an education major is learning that students have different learning styles as well as different intelligences in their acquisition of their life's experiences. My master's thesis was on computer-based training. My experience includes teaching end users and other trainers (train the trainer). Classroom training subjects have included using software programs, developing online documentation, writing skills, communications training, policies and so on. Past clients have been Blue Cross Blue Shield, U.S. Navy, Chevron and many more. Further, I have mentored co-workers in the past and enjoy one-on-one coaching very much.
My approach is to incorporate multiple learning styles (visual, auditory and so on). I also like to incorporate skills training as part of a scenario when possible. Using techniques like appropriate background music, brief stretch breaks, having the children read to Sierra, my golden retriever, are all techniques that I would like to use. Teaching children would be a joy and very rewarding. I had trouble learning to re ... read more

I received excellent reviews and several of my students wrote to me or came to my office to tell me that I helped make history interesting for the first time. I have a passion for education and I take that passion into working with students.
