I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. My initial approach is to ascertain exactly where the student stands prior to starting any course work. Students can be and are easily frustrated with work that is either beyond their ability or more advanced. Frustration can be either eliminated or reduced when students have a better understanding of their work. One of the main things I learned in teaching various ages of children in Sunday School is that when they are liked and respected and they know that, they are paying attention and leaning even when they appear to be bored.
All of my teaching experience has been in a Sunday School setting. I understand that this is not in the school system, but I have had the oppertunity to learn to relate to children of various ages.
