Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I taught ASL for over 25 years; and I'm fluent in ASL, PSE and SEE. I taught in homeschool; private school; and colleges.

I teach then I repeat to review the signs by using sentences. I work in one on one and in groups. I'm patient and I look for ways to help the students remember the signs. I help them apply all aspects of the deaf culture in their rapport. I have experience working with students with disabilities.
I taught at four colleges for over 16 years. I'm currently teaching part time at one college for the last ten years. I taught ASL for over 25 years. I teach students and members in home-school; secondary private school; college level; and community. Other skills that I have are nursing assistant, dialysis technician, cosmetologist, cook, job coach for developmental disabled deaf clients, behavior modification, program manager, and restaurant assistant manager. I do public speaking about dogs for the deaf and about ASL. I'm a Jill of all trades.

Education, youth and adult continuing education are great passions of mine. I believe that every student has the capacity to learn and has room for improvement. I don't believe that education has to be dull and I value creative approaches to learning, all the while keeping a keen eye on the task at hand. While teaching special needs I worked with many kinds of students, including those with: autism, physical disabilities, downs syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, ODB, and many others. I worked in segregated and inclusive settings. I believe in inclusion, if it is done by people who believe in it and know how to do it. While teaching third grade, I was the ELL designated teacher. During my studies at USU I worked at Adams Elementary both as a Teachers Aid as well as a Mentor during the After School Program. I worked one-on-one as well as in groups of students grade k-5. This position was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable that I've had and would love to continue. I have also taught American Sign Language at the University in their ASL Labs for a year.
Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods. I believe in tailoring my teaching to the needs of the student and not to what I am most relaxed with.
