A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans. I set appropriate boundaries and expect the students to follow the rules that are set before them. That being said I try to make the learning as fun as possible but organized. I also try to bring in anything that they are interested in to make them enjoy the subject they are learning. If I can find an example in life they can relate to that will help them learn something I will find it and bring it in. I love working with children and really love math.
Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 yea ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

At St. Andrews Presbyterian College, I enjoyed helping fellow classmates write essays and found that my skills in English were immensely useful in all classes. I took a job working at the school library and was paid to help students with research and writing. Last year, I finished my first screenplay entitled "For Sale by Owner", a thesis, and my original TV pilot, which I helped produce at the school. It was wonderful to work alongside my Film, English and Honors professors to help other students shine in their own writing talents. I look forward to continuing to work alongside others to really show the discovery and excitement of creating and of learning.
What I enjoy most about working with children and adults in tutoring is helping them to realize the skills and abilities they have. In my teaching, I like to encourage students and let them learn, believing that each person is ... read more

As a Princeton University graduate and current Ph D student at the University of Michigan, I am committed to both my own education as well as the education of others. My undergraduate degree in Art & Archaeology provided me with a solid humanities background and strong reading, writing and analytical skills. In addition to my humanities skills, I also have a strong math background. Following college, I worked with Teach for America as a High School math instructor in Algebra, Geometry and remedial subjects. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with people. Getting to know the people you work with is truely the first step to help any educational situation become successful. As I described above, I have many experiences to share from my 13 years of teaching. I am a very open and flexible educator that uses various resources in order to help my students become and feel successful with challenges. However, everyday I continue to learn something new from my students just as they have learned from me. I always enjoy any opportunity to help young generations prepare for the role of future leaders that will shape and take care of our world someday.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having taught high school in both affluent and underprivileged areas I strive to make sure that every student has a positive learning experience. My degree is a BS in Communication/Business with a minor in education. Language has always been my first love and I continue to take classes related to this field. The past few years I have worked in sales but I continue to tutor.
My philosophy has always been, "make it interesting and they will learn." However, what is interesting to you and I may not be interesting to the next person. Therefore, I listen to the child and figure out their learning style and interests. Only then can I properly teach and know they understand the subject matter. It is always exciting to see a Childs face when something clicks and they have that, "I understand what she is talking about moment."

I taught at Brevard High School for 4 years as a Computer Engineering and Networking instructor. I am currently working part time as the Computer Lab Instuctor/IT Tech Support contact at Immaculata Catholic School in Hendersonville, NC. I am looking for part time work to supplement my hours at Immaculata. I also have many years of one on one teaching and training with students, workers, administration, and management. In other words, I believe I can work with various levels of understanding.
I believe that every day offers the opportunity to either learn or teach or both. There is no situation where there is not something to be gained, or shared. I believe every child is different. The opportunities offered to each child are the same, it is the acceptance and interpretation that is the challenge.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children as well as adults. I am very patient and understand the difficulties of school work. Not all children learn from the same style of teaching or at the same rate, and I believe that a dedicated teacher can make all the difference in a child's education. Because each child is different, I can modify my approach to fit the needs of the child in a fun, productive manner.

I understand that any child can run into problems with schoolwork. I try to find out why the child is having a problem before trying to help them. Did he miss something and fall behind? Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. In math, I like to assign the numbers and equations to subjects the learner likes, such as pizza, sports or music, for example. I also find it is beneficial to make references to the different careers one might use the knowledge learned in the child's classes.

The last six years I have taught using a most effective multi-sensory method of instruction for children with language-based differences, both as a full-time teacher and a part-time tutor. I possess excellent communication, computer, organizational, and teaching skills. I’ve taught in a variety of situations from elementary to high school levels in both private and public school settings. I have tutored in an after-school reading clinic, as well as in home settings. I've held social work positions working with children considered “at risk,” educationally and/or behaviorally.
The visual-auditory-kinesthetic or VAK method of instruction is a hands-on, child-involved method that reaches students with all types of learning needs. It is my primary teaching strategy utilized. I find it important to match reading material,(utilizing both student ability and interest levels,)to promo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Art is my passion! In 2008 I obtained a degree in graphic communications at Clemson. My major required creativity to design certain types of print; such as labels, books, t-shirts, and brochures. I also took photography and art history. Although these classes required artistic talent, my true art education began in high school. I attended the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville for two years. There, I took classes in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, jewelry, photography, and art history. Since then, I continue to paint, draw, and make jewelry. I have taught friends and family the basics of painting and jewelry-making in the past few years and really enjoy teaching my passion to others.
As a hands-on learner, I really believe in active, “learn by doing” teaching. When it comes to a subject like art, there is no better way than to pr ... read more
