I am a native of Puerto Rico. I learned English as a second language at the age of 11 years old. I recall the difficulty I had in learning the English language while at the same time trying to make it through the 5th grade. The task was frustrating and often overwhelming. The few teachers who made the effort to tutor me individualy were the ones who made the difference in my academic life. As a graduate from a rigorous teacher training program at USF, I learned many skills and techniques to to teach students of all ability levels and ages. I had many opportunities throughout my college career to practice and experience teaching students from large groups to one-on-one settings. I was a recipient of the Michelin Scholarship Grant which allowed me to go to local Title 1 Middle Schools and tutor at-risk students.
