My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have experience working with these students. I have learned that I must keep some characteristics in mind. I must establish a rapport with the student. I must keep tutoring sessions short allowing for breaks if needed. I must avoid distractions during the sessions. I also find it helpful and amust to communicate with the teachers to know what assignments are due and when and test dates and the material to be tested on.

Having just graduated in May 2008, I feel lucky to have already experienced a wide range of instructional opportunities. Last fall, I was employed as a Teacher's Aide and Learning Lab Facilitator. I find that teaching is as much about getting to know each person, finding there strengths and weaknesses and using those to benefit them in their process of understanding. I like to come up with creative approaches that will suit each individual's strengths for learning. I know that one on one attention, support and encouragement is a large component of what is missing in a lot of today's public school classrooms and love the opportunity that tutoring can provide to children who can learn just as well as anyone else, but may not be finding success in the classroom.
