I am a credentialed elementary teacher, but have experience tutoring K-12, both in person and virtually. I began tutoring virtually starting in mid 2019 and refined my skills during the pandemic when everything became virtual. I also currently teach 3rd grade in California and participate regularly in plenty of professional development, including post graduate courses. This is my 6th year teaching in the classroom, but my umpteenth year working with children in a school setting. I use a comprehensive homeschool curriculum with progress monitoring reports, and my lessons are interactive and designed to meet the needs of each student. I try to have fun and make it relevant to their own experience, and I ensure that every student feels included and welcomed. I believe that all students can achieve academic success, even in their least favorite subjects. However, everyone learns in different ways with sundry motivations. Many students require some one on one time with a qualified teacher, who will both identify the student’s learning style and adapt their teaching style accordingly. I also believe that a student’s confidence in their abilities will play into their success. A skilled teacher will tailor lessons and feedback to build on skills a student does have, instilling confidence and encouraging the learner to meet the challenge of complex topics. With over 17 years of teaching experience, I realize the impact that one on one tutoring can have on a student. It truly depends on the student and the subject. I try to adapt my teaching style to what the student needs. If one approach is not working, then we can work together to find an approach that does. I believe that it is important for the student to be able to relate to the teacher and it is the teachers job to create that connection. Over the past 15 years I have had variety of different teaching experiences. I taught literature as a TA at UC Santa Barbara while studying for my Masters. I have tutored K-12 students in both Math and English. While studying for my undergraduate I assited in running a homeless shelter where I taught many of the children reading, writing, and math. I have a passion for teaching and am a mother myself and understand the true value of educating our youth.
