I am planning to enter medical school in the Fall of 2012 and as such have developed a strong foundation in the sciences throughout my undergraduate education. Although I majored in Biology, my true passion is Chemistry. I spent 2 years on a religious service mission where I became fluent in Spanish. I really enjoy explaining a difficult concept in my own way until the other person understands it. If the original problem is too complicated for the student to understand, I usually first break it down into several easier problems and then guide the student through the thinking process. When I help a student on a homework problem, I usually don't just write down the answers directly for the student to copy, but ask the student to explain first how he/she plans to solve it according to his/her own knowledge and then try to figure out where exactly the student gets stuck.

I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. I believe that all kids can learn so much if they work as hard as they can and put forth maximum effort. I think it is very easy to learn/teach using as many hands on examples as possible.

I am a recent honors graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil and environmental engineering.
