Math, Science, Writing, and Critical Thinking

During my time at Colorado College, I worked as a chemistry tutor helping my younger peers traverse the challenging General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry course loads. But because of CC's rigorous alternative schedule--where you take one class at a time, for one month each class--it's necessary to learn to pick up new concepts very quickly, I often found myself being asked for help in classes I myself was taking. I never minded this, because being forced to explain something is the best way to ensure your own understanding of the concept. Prior to that, I graduated from a highly technical private engineering school with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. The school was on a trimester schedule so that we could finish a normal 5 year degree in only 4 years so it was a highly demanding program. The majority of my educational experience was acquired along with my teaching license at Colorado State University. This experience includes practicums in Fort Collins schools and 16 weeks of student teaching at Loveland High School. All 3 stints involved either algebra or geometry. I find a way to explain a technique based on what the student already knows how to do. While at Devry Institute of Technology, I was ranked in the top 3% of National Engineering students. This degree required advanced mathematics including Calculus, differential equations, and network synthesis. It also included computer programming and electronic circuit theory and design. In my career I have taught Windows, MS Office, robotics and programming to adults, helped teenagers graduate from high school, and helped my 7 year old daughter learn math.
