A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching, I find it to be one of the most rewarding expeirences not only for the learner but for the teacher as well. Although my experience is with adult learners, I would welcome the opportunity to work with children. I had an opportunity to volunteer as a big sister for the BBBS organization and I really enjoyed the interaction between myself and my 5th grade mentee. As far as my teaching style, I try not to limit the learner or myself to any one particular style. I believe everyone has a unique and idividual way of learning. Teaching to me is about how to engage the student. The material that is prepared for daily lessons can be nothing more than just words to some students. The instructor must become one with the student and understand them on their level. Once you can see eye to eye with your students, then you can begin to help them learn and grow. I learn right along with my students, gaining interpersonal skills from every student. The student's feedback and honesty helps me as an instructor meet the needs of future students. Students are the backbone of the future and their strength comes from how you teach them to see themselves in the world making a difference. I am a 60-year old man who has taught every subject at every grade level as an artist in the schools for over 35 years. I currently substitute in all the grades in Hart County so I have had to demonstrate knowledge of every subject at every grade level. I have been in the classrooms of public schools every day for about 60% of my adult life. I hold a Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College with a major in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Math. I have tutored a lot over the years, and whereas I am comfortable handling any subject, my particular strong point is Math. I am able to find the way that students can understand the principles being learned (and this way is different for each student).
