Experienced Educator who wants your child to love learning.

I have a very engaging manner with students. I feel that learning is a joy, rather than a chore and I try to pass that attitude on to my students. I use frequent checks for understanding and reteaching when necessary. I also believe that a student's own insights and questions can guide learning to its highest levels.
I have been a full-time classroom teacher at all grade levels for the last 12 years. I also have several years as a substitute teacher. I specialize in differentiating instruction for all learners. In addition, I can teach reading and writing skills using authentic sources and classroom subject matter so that students don't fall behind on content-learning at the expense of practice with unrelated materials.

Professional, Experienced, Passionate Teacher and Tutor

After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. Prep., Latin, and other subjects in Springfield, MA in 2003 in an alternative, urban high school. I taught (and tutored after school) until I moved to Florida in 2009, when my spouse began graduate studies at U.S.F. Since then, I have continued to tutor a wide range of students in subjects ranging from high school Latin, 5th grade Math, college English, S.A.T. and G.E.D. Preparation, and graduate level writing, and I have extensive training and experience with students who struggle with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and ESL issues, as well as with children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).
I believe that all students can and will achieve ... read more

My comments on tutoring Government : Our government is large and quite confusing. I'll teach you how to remember which branch does what and why.

Took three years of college courses on Psychology at Ashford University, trained with a Computer Troubleshooting Specialist for four years, have two books of my own written word poetry published. In my time at Ashford I picked plenty of shareable skills, study skills, time management, and using my keyboard to it's fullest potential to meet deadlines. While training with the Computer Troubleshooter, I learned more about how to use software and typing/keyboard shortcuts to utilize computers to their full potential. I also learned how to use properly install hardware and to build a desktop, and where to find reasonably priced keyboard components.
I go with the styles that fit the student. I generally use the first couple of visits to assess what works best for the student and then work with the student in a calm and patient yet firm manner. I do not try to force results, every student ... read more

My teaching style is reflected in my 35 years of teaching Learning Disabilities. Every student has a different learning style that they use in the educational setting. I use a variety of teaching approaches to find the most productive with the individual student. In all approaches the end result must be the understanding of the material and the ability to show competence. The majority of my teaching and tutoring experience has been with small groups or individually which is why this program is so appealing to me.
I retired last year after teaching Learning Disabilities for 35 years at the high school level. I have taught most subject areas but specialized in math. I also tutored for the last 8 years in the Hospital Homebound Program working with 6th-12th graders in nearly all required subject areas after school. Last year I tutored eight students grades 3rd through 6th in mat ... read more

As a professional in the field of physical education it is my obligation to change the way physical education is perceived in our society. The purpose of Physical Education is to help children develop the skills they will need for becoming functionally active and healthy people in society. It is important to realize that the mind and the body are closely linked together. Physical education and academic achievement are closely linked in that physical fitness promotes a healthy mind. I want my students to not only achieve in my class, but also to achieve academically in other classes. By teaching with that in mind, society will see that I play an intricate part of my student’s education.

My teacher style reflects my strong beliefs in interaction and relevance as the keys to successful learning. Moreover, teaching in a wide variety of settings has instilled in me the importance of personal attention to the whole student. Professor John Rassias developed the Rassias Method (R)to rapidly teach language to Peace Corps volunteers. It engages the students on a logical, emotional and interpersonal level immediately, mimicking the immersion environment of real international settings to the greatest degree possible. While this level of instruction is the ideal, I have dealt with the most fundamental and challenging situations of homesick students and young people with serious challenges in their personal lives. Such challenges are primary needs, and the pursuit of mastery never overshadows such concerns in my instruction

During my college career at the University of Florida, I excelled in all areas, including general education and tracking courses for my major. I was deemed Valedictorian for the spring graduating class in 2008 with a 4.0 GPA. As a senior, I was chosen as a teaching assistant for Research Methods in Criminology. I gave lectures, ran lab meetings of 50 students, held office hours, aided students with homework and research projects, and assisted with other daily errands. My expertise is relatively eclectic, as I perform well learning and teaching Math, English, Chemistry, and Psychology (and Criminological studies). One of my written works was chosen for publication during my four year stay at the University of Florida, and I have years of experience writing intelligent and eloquent research papers. My teaching style would be based on the direct method of teaching. I like to show my students the way to the information or how to solve a problem and then have the student find their way to solving a problem. Working with these special students is very satisfying. Being able to watch them be successful and feel that they can is the greatest experience in the world. I believe that ALL children can learn. This is why the strategy of differentiated instruction is so crucial to a special needs child. I attempt to work based on the difficulty the student is having. I love to see my students succeed and feel like they are special. This makes all my efforts worthwhile. I would like to be able to extend my love and commitment of education.
