I have been teaching and tutoring kids since I graduated from high school. Even in High school my friends were asking me for help. I have a BA degree in English. My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. After graduating with a double major in Psychology and English with an emphasis in Literature, I started my graduate work in English and a teaching position as a high school English teacher. I took education certification courses and passed the state exam for the State of Florida for middle school and high school English. I was an instructional aide for Adult Education at Martin County where I tutored in spelling, grammar, literature and prepared adults for the G.E.D. I have teaching experience in all areas and with students of all ages form being a substitute teacher. I returned to the work force recently from being a stay at home mom. I graduated with Magna Cum Laude from Marshall University in 2005. I have earned a BA in Psychology. In my senior year in college, I had an opportunity to work at a psychiatric residential treatment program, where I worked with adolescents with serious mental disturbances. In addition, I tutored several children throughout my college years. I also taught Japanese at an after-school program for a semester in West Virginia. I refer to my teaching style as creative and fun. When I was teaching Japanese to two young American children, I was constantly challenged with keeping their interests to learn the language. Similar challenges occurred when I taught Japanese in an after-school program. I believe that depth of learning will be determined significantly by how students are taught.
