I believe in creating students who have learned how to learn. I understand that I am only a temporary fixture in the lives of most students. I find it rewarding to teach children and adults the necessary skills that allow them to obtain full English literacy. One of the greatest accomplishments in the course of the educational process is the acquisition of full, quality literacy; it is the foundation. Consequently, I prefer a step-by-step, pragmatic method of teaching English language skills: phonics, words, syllables, consonants, verbs, sentences, punctuation, grammar, etc.
As a long-term adjunct instructor, I have successfully cultivated an effective set of best teaching practices relative to the English language and Communications. I have spent the last 4 years working towards getting my BA in Education. I first earned my AA, concentrating on the Humanities. While earning my BA, I have had college level Grammar and Linguistics as well as a wide variety of Literature classes, including World Lit, American Lit, British Lit and Fantasy Lit. I currently work in the Writing Center, assisting students in all phases of paper writing, from research and drafting to the final draft and style.
I know that all students can learn. The trick to it is to get them to want to. As a teacher, I must be able to improvise, adapt and over come all obstacles that keep students from wanting to learn. I am an easy going teacher, looking for fun ways to teach the things that the students need to learn so they can reach their full potential.
