A Little Bit About Me...

Graduated from the Cook County School of Nursing and worked on a Med-Surg unit at Little Company of Mary Hospital (LCMH). While working at LCMH, I began my undergraduate studies at Chicago State University in which I graduated in 1980 with a BSN. I began working at the Rehabilitation Unit at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago. I chose to go back for my master’s degree in Nursing with the goal of becoming a nurse educator. I graduated from Saint Xavier University in Chicago and was working at South Chicago School of Nursing and worked there for 6 years and then went to teach at the BSN program at Chicago State University for 28 years when I retired. I loved teaching so much I took a limited term lecturer position at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond Indiana. The areas I taught were Med-Surg/Fundamentals/Pharmacology/Health Assessment/Health Promotion/Patho/and NCLEX prep.

The Achievement Centers, our after school tutorial/diagnostic clinic and before and after school care, is available for all ages and subjects. Tutoring and diagnostic testing is available after school, evenings (Monday – Friday) and Saturday mornings. The clinic is available year-round. Our testing clinician and school psychologist offer a Psychoeducational Evaluation to all new students. The testing is scheduled for two three hour sessions on separate days during after school hours. The evaluation consist of various test measuring a student’s cognitive abilities, processing skills, IQ, and academic levels. The evaluation will determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as how they think, reason and process information. A conference will be held with the family and/or the student. I have a very varied teaching style. Do you prefer real-world examples, or NCLEX test questions, or powerpoints? I can do whatever you would like. My goal is to help you pass!
I have precepted new graduate nurses and taught other nurses different styles of how to do nursing tasks. I also have a personal record of passing the NCLEX in 35 minutes (Although there are no speed points!). Your success on this test determines your ability to begin your career. It is not about the money, I make that point clear now. It is about caring for your fellow human being and being able to help them proceed on their healthcare journey.
