As someone who felt in my youth that if I could only pay attention I could learn anything has taught me how to break down the barriers to focus and how it can shape a students success in any discipline. Focusing on my learning style has taught me how to demonstrate complex ideas in ways that are easy to absorb. I tend to find different ways to relate material to students in ways that are fun. I used a dollars and cents approach to teach young students the importance of decimals, fractions, and basic arithmetic as how it affected their own bottom line: their allowance, milk money and so on. Working with students and education has been a part of my life for about 11 years. I first began doing so in high school, around 1999 working as a volunteer with the YMCA. Eventually I became a counselor and would work my way up to Camp Director. I am proud to say that I am the first of my family to attend a University. Currently I am a senior at Cuny Lehman College in the Bronx, NY where I study English Literature and minor in Secondary Education. After completing my Master of Science degree in Literacy Education, I went on to work as a Reading Specialist in New York City.
