I have recently received my Ph.D. in biochemistry from the laboratory of Prof. F. Peter Guengerich at Vanderbilt University. I am seeking a teaching position near my family in Minnesota. I was a chemistry tutor in college for two years and I have spent a great deal of time informally teaching in the laboratory in graduate school. In addition to teaching one semester at the local community college, I also mentored two graduate students in our laboratory.
My approach to teaching science is to begin by applying the basic principles of biology and chemistry to everyday life. I love working with all ages and generally prefer English as a Second Language students, but I enjoy working with everyone. My teaching style is very student centered as I try to figure out what a learner likes to learn and cater the instruction to them so it stays fun and educational. I do not necessarily prescribe to a particular approach to teaching as I believe it takes a variety to make a difference. Every learner is different. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching because I truly enjoy seeing the light come on when a student gets it. I have had some excellent teachers in my life and have used their techniques to help students I tutor. I understand there is not one specific way to teach a subject and the key is asking questions to find out what will help a particular student. I find it helpful to use processes students are familiar with and expand upon that knowledge. I am a firm believer in showing why something works the way it does, not just showing the solution.
