Northland Learning Solutions specializes in one-on-one dyslexia tutoring, in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Additionally, we have discovered that our program is beneficial to anyone requiring assistance in reading and spelling. Northland Learning Solutions offers professional tutoring services to the surrounding communities. Our Orton-Gillingham based tutoring system utilizes the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Our trained tutors work personally with students for one hour, 2 to 3 times a week. We do not tutor in a group setting.
I worked for a dyslexia tutoring center, Road to Learning, located in the Chicago area that would tutor between 80 to 100 students per week. I was personally trained by Lisa Stankus who is the director of Road to Learning. I have also worked in a Middle School for 2 years to gain additional experience.

When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. I've been able to put these skills to actual use as an instructor, tutor, and advisor for college students. I have taught Business Writing, Business Communication, and Keyboarding classes. I have also had a great deal of experience with public speaking and have played piano for more than 20 years. In the end though, it's a great joy to see a student "get it" and to help them realize their full potential.

I believe all students can learn and use my training and experience to adapt my teaching strategies to individual learning styles. Using student interests can help direct teaching that improves students’ enjoyment of learning. For instance, when teaching reading to boys I have found that they often like to read more factual reading material about sports, science, history, mechanics, etc. Student interests change as they get older and reading material needs to be age appropriate. Students thrive on positive re-enforcements, but the best motivation is personal success. I have been a piano teacher for 29 years, teaching privately in my home studio. I am insatiable in my pursuit of knowledge, and have wide interests. My first degree in history and philosophy influenced me in how I approached all other fields of study. I am never satisfied with a superficial knowledge of anything I undertake. My experience with other cultures has been a huge influence in how I approach knowledge and how I approach teaching. I lived in Quebec, Canada for 29 years, learned French and studied in a French university. I also speak German. I am an excellent writer in English.
