I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped" I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

I have tutored before, I am currently tutoring kids at my high school everyday in the subject in which they need help in. My goal in tutoring is to not only to have the child succeed in the course but to understand the concept of the course. My style of teaching is different for each child, because everyone does not learn the same way. Some people are visual learners and with them I focus on teaching them with pictures. Others are audible learners in which with these I focus on teaching with songs. My main reason for tutoring is to make learning fun!

I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999 from University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Elementary Education and Communications. I am also National Board Certified in area of Middle Childhood Generalist. I am certified 6-9 and 9-12 English. I have taught 4th grade for 2 years, 5th grade for 5 years, 6th grade for 1 year, 7th and 8th grades for 3 years, 9 and 10th grades for 1 year and 11 and 12th grades for 2 years. I believe all children can learn and that it is the responsibility of the teacher to reach the student. I develop relationships with my students and make learning real for them. I teach using real world scenarios to make learning meaningful. I use hands on lessons when appropriate and teach using mneumonic devices for learning.

I have 13 years experience teaching high school and middle school math. I have had a fulfilling teaching career thus far. I currently teach at Providence High School in Matthews, North Carolina. My current subjects are Algebra 2 and A.P. Calculus. I have experience teaching levels 6-12 grades. My strengths are Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Calculus. In public school, the key to teaching success is the ability to motivate students to try their best by learning as much about each individual student as possible and keeping their attention. One of my classroom rules for students is to participate in everything we do. I keep my students engaged for the full ninety minutes through varied activities and try to change activities every twenty minutes. My goal with each lesson is to provide students with multiple opportunities to learn concepts and use varied assessment tools each day.

Each child learns differently so I try to explain in ways they can understand. I listen to what and how they need help and try to relate that to helping them understand better. I try to get them to discover the answers on their answer and feel comfortable with explaining how they got the answer. I am a graduate of UNC Greensboro with a BS in Exercise Sport and Science. I have also worked 3 years as an assistant teacher and a floater in a daycare. I helped kids with their homework in math, english and science afterschool, as well as helped teachers plan the weekly lesson plans during the summer programs.
