Law is one of my top subjects!

I have just about ten years teaching grades pre-k through eight grade. I took the requirements to obtain a teaching minor and certification, except the student teaching and the test because I decided to switch gears and go to law school. I am experienced in both the Michigan Grade Level Expectations as well as the Michigan's Adaptation of the Common Core Curriculum. I have taught students who are both intellectually advanced as well as those who experience challenges with learning and have had great success with both. When I decided to go to law school, I worked full time as a teacher and excelled in law school graduating in the top 15% of my class. I also had success in raising standardized testing scores for the majority of students in my 5th grade classroom.

My teaching style may vary depending on the student. I would have to get a feel of what the child like and dislike about the subject he or she is struggling in. I would also want to obtain a list of goals or expectations from the student's parents in order to implement a plan that will aid both the student and I to accomplish the targeted goal. I will implement interesting ways to make the subject fun so that the student can build confidence and enjoy the learning process.
I enjoy teaching others and helping them excel in their studies. I can relate to younger students because I have a six year old who required extensive help in the area of reading. My teaching style is simple: get the kids involved. Make the subjects relevant to them. While working as a paraprofessional in a Detroit charter school, I created a number of different lesson plans that attempt to get the children interested in a subject that doesn't readily lend itself to progress. For example, I created a lesson plan tying mathematical functions with NBA stars such as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. A teacher acts a creative facilitator, one who inspires kids to want to learn and creates an energy within the student or class. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience has been tutor/volunteer work during my 4 years of college and some post work. I love to teach my students using things that matter to them. Explaining a word problem using candy or food helps student relate to the issue at hand.
I have much to offer in the way of diversity of experience and profession in that I have worked in two (2) major industries: finance and currently, education. Within these industries I have had the opportunity to learn policies, procedures and the protocol necessary to enforce them ethically and without liability.
