My comments on tutoring Chess : I've played all my life! I'm not a "BOBBY FISHER",butI know my way around a chess board!

AS WELL AS CONVENTIONAL LEARNING TECHNIQUES,I EMPLOY UNIQUE TEACHING METHODS USING MULTI-MEDIA!! IF YOUR CHILD HAS LEARNING DISSABILITES OR DOSEN'T PERFORM AS WELL AS YOU WOULD LIKE IN SCHOOL MY "SPECIAL HELP" MIGHT JUST BE THE CATALYST THAT PUTS YOUR CHILD BACK ON THE RIGHT LEARNING TRACK!!
GROWING UP I TAUGHT IN HALF-WAY AND GROUP HOMES! MY MOTHER WAS A TEACHER/PRINCIPLE AND I GREW UP LEARNING THE ROPES FIRST-HAND! IN COLLEGE,I MAJORED IN PSCYCHOLOGY AND MINORED IN ENVIROMENTAL SCIENCES. SHORTLY AFTER I WENT TO WORK FOR GANNETT AS A DRIVER/LIASION/TROUBLE-SHOOTER/CLERK/PROOF-READER. I WAS EMPLOYED THERE FOR A QUARTER OF A CENTURY!

More About This Tutor...

My students often say I can’t be a teacher because they “just get it" when I explain. Even so, my degree is in math and I've taught professionally and privately. I have a history of maintaining high scores and would rather show why something works than how to follow steps. I don't expect students to love math or do it "my way" but I want students to know math isn't scary. To this end, I explain every step, do assessments to determine student needs and base instruction on student knowledge. If possible, I like to make sure students are comfortable working alone before I leave and will help students learn mental shortcuts, use a calculator and think logically. Overall I love watching students succeed.
In 1995, I began my official tutoring odyssey by assisting my classmates in AP Calculus. Every day during lunch I spent my half-hour helping my fellow high school seniors succeed, u ... read more

I love helping people to grow their understanding and reach their full potential. Not being one to stick stricly to the book, I have often employed many hands on and lecture based training aids. The only way for a person to truly learn is from their mistakes, as such, I take care to exercise patience and understanding.
As a life longer, I have searched out projects that not only allow me to draw upon my current experiences while at the same time pushing and expanding my knowledge. Doing this has allowed me to tackle everything form the very basic of projects not only in computer technology but also in general labor fields. This has lead me to take on projects such as an Arcade System while a student at Heald college.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a accomplished student, I realized I always had help along the help with achieving academic success. From teachers and counselors to my peers and older students. I began to help other with academics as early as the third grade, however I began to commit to tutoring in High School and continue it through-out college, in hopes to eventually becoming a teacher in the future.
I believe anyone can teach a subject, having enough knowledge of a subject allows one to pass it on. However, I feel what many teachers do not do is teach students how to learn. It is in my belief that teaching students to learn enables them to think independently allowing them to become more creative rather than repetitive. So not only do I teach students the subject, I teach them how to learn and apply it to every other subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children and young people all my adult life from teaching VBS as a teenager to presently being a tutor and substitute teacher. In addition to my majors, I have minors in Greek and Western Culture. I wrote a substantial Master's Thesis. For the past 12 years I have also worked as a pastor. Part of my work in this capacity involves writing and presenting two sermons every week which is equivalent to researching, writing and presenting two ten page papers every week. In addition, I presently teach Greek and Latin, tutor students in math (pre-algebra and algebra), Latin, natural science, and writing.
My approach to teaching begins with having a high expectation for what my students can accomplish. Therefore, my goal is, in part, to help my students love learning and to translate the love for learning into higher achievements. I try to inspire the students In ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I come from a family of teachers and, like my parents, I enjoy helping others and reaching the end goal of aiding a student in attaining their own aspirations both long and short term. I understand the difficulties and frustrations that often accompany learning, however I believe that with the right positive reinforcements all students can overcome any hurdle and achieve academic success. In addition, these academic success are the kindling to creating a growing fire of self-motivation which can last a lifetime. I want to help all students in anyway possible to find the academic switch that inspires them to continue to learn and better themselves.

I graduated with an MA in English (TESOL), and a BA in English Composition (writing). I have had a successful career as an English Instructor. My notable areas of expertise include writing (essays, GREs, SATs, TOEFLs, resume writing, etc.), grammar/linguistics, reading skills, oral communication, and vocabulary development. I am proficient in several foreign languages as well: Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, and some Spanish.
I have had the experience of teaching students of all ages: kindergarteners, elementary schoolers, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults. I have also taught students whose primary language is not English. Each age group has required a different style of approach, so I cannot comment on my teaching style in full here, but suffice it to say that I cater my teaching style to match the student's age, academic skill, and time.

A Little Bit About Me...

After earning my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Mathematics in 1990 from the California State University at Stanislaus, I entered the credential program. In the credential program at C.S.U. Stanislaus, I became well prepared for all the nuances besides teaching that goes with being a teacher. I was introduced to the concept of classroom management, assertive discipline, and establishing a warm and friendly learning environment in the classroom. I learned and developed a repertoire of hands-on manipulatives, games, and puzzles to make the learning of math more exciting, fun, and easy. Today, I still use most of these techniques although some have been altered to be more effective.
