I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

I can adapt to whatever style your student needs to excel. We can do on-line, one on one or small group. I can work with families who have more than one student needing help for reduced rates. I use visual, auditory, and hands-on to meet the needs of the student I am tutoring.
I have 35 years experience teaching grades one through seven. I know how to teach reading, writing, general math, social studies, and general science. I can help with any subject in grades one to seven and can guarantee results for motivated students. I enjoy tutoring and love to work with students of all ages who need the help. I can even work with high school students on social studies, writing, and reading. I can help with SAT vocabulary and set up a system for them to learn the words. Engaging with the student and getting them interested in the subject is of the utmost importance. If they do not care, they will not do well. Which is why making the student attracted to the subject is my first step. Once engaged, we can have fun with it. I also believe the most successful student is a hands-on student. That is why I will work with the student step-by-step until they can do it on their own.
In high school I was a student-tutor. I spent three summers in Vacation Bible School at Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken, South Carolina, where I got plenty of experience dealing with children. I am currently enrolled at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where I am majoring in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies. I am a hopeful High School teacher.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching children. For the younger children, I tend to be more hands on with projects and objects to help them learn. I also believe visual aids are very good. For middle school children learning math and English, I feel like giving them lots of practice problems and going over it together really seems to help. For students in high school it usually depends on the kid. By this age most of them have discovered if they are visual, kinetic, or auditory learners. Based on the type of learner they are , I like to adjust my teaching style.
I tutored for Mission: Mentor while I attended Georgia State Universtity for 3 years. I was awarded Mentor of the Year in 2006 at Georgia State University. When I continued my education at Augusta State University, I volunteered as a mentor at the ASU Literacy Center helping children of all ages.

More About This Tutor...

During my course as a math tutor, I’ve found one on one tutoring to be most effective. Each child presented different needs and was receptive to different teaching methods, so I would meet with them individually. I believe each child is just as likely to succeed as the next one, and as a tutor, it is my job to encourage and instill confidence in them.
As I approach my college graduation, I have realized how fortunate I am to have been given the opportunity to attend college. I understood the importance of understanding math in life early on and my Finance degree only validated that notion. Early this year, I began tutoring advanced math to middle school kids and found it to be a rejuvenating to see young minds eagerly waiting to be academically challenged.

I enjoy working with children. As a matter of fact, I coached Little League Baseball for 12 years and had a blast. I believe children today need to explore various learning techniques and decide which works best for them. I have learned that one of the most effective learning tools for teachers is the ability to connect with their students. I feel like my style and sincerity is reflective in my teaching therefore; the students quickly engage and appreciate the way I show a caring respect for them. Learning for students comes natural if they feel like you really care. Nonetheless, I am a strong disciplinarian and require my students to be respectful of other children and adults.

I have worked in the private sector for over 28-years. During that time, I have earned Associates Degrees in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering Technology. I have also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. The majority of my career has been spent working with un-skilled laborers, which has afforded me the opportunity to teach as well as learn. Not only have I developed training programs and materials for employees but written procedure manuals and field installation guides for my company. I have two children of my own and have spent many rewarding hours tutoring them in their studies.
Every teacher must recognize that individuals learn at their own pace. I try to begin at a pace that the student feels comfortable with while gradually challenging them to improve their performance. My technical background makes me a very visual person. I like to incorp ... read more

As an educator,I enjoy embrassing teachable moments.I began my teaching career with Severely and Profoundly Intellectually Disabled children, who ranged in grade level from K-5. I was then granted the opportunity to teach the same class, but on a middle aged grade level. I have also, and am currently, teaching general education 8th grade students. While I couldn't totally dismiss myself from the special education spectrum; I take part in inclusion teaching. I also perform small group instruction for students working below grade level in mathematics, reading, and language arts ,in a joint effort with the math and ela teachers, to prepare the students for the crct.
My style of teaching is always dependent upon my students and where they are congnitively. Teaching is always keeping the best academic interest of your students in mind. Therefore, I almost, always try to provide students ... read more

I am a graduate of Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg, Florida, where I received a B.A. with Honors in History and Theater. Boy's Academy. As a teacher, I also tutored students after school in writing and reading.
As a teacher I witnessed first hand the challenges students face in public schools. Due to the importance placed on standardized tests, students are often taught with a single focus in mind. Often times the different needs and learning styles of students are overlooked or ignored completely. I, on the other hand, prefe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching almost as much as I enjoy learning. I believe that basic education skills are the foundation for success. Progressing through school in Independent Study Classes, I am fully aware that conventional methods of teaching and studying do not work for every child. I invite and accept the challenge of discovering new ways to share the knowledge that I have gathered so far in my educational career. I think it’s important to maintain patience and provide support to anyone who may need a little extra help learning a skill.
I began tutoring in the third grade after I was accepted into Independent Study Classes. I was selected to tutor my fellow classmates in spelling and reading comprehension. My volunteer tutoring continued throughout my grade school years and into my higher education career. Once in college, I was hired as a mental health worker and tutor to austitic child ... read more

I have earned a BS in Physical Education. My major was Athletic Training, which has prepared me to gain extensive knowledge in Biology and Anatomy & Phys. I also have prior tutoring experience helping with students at my church and family members who were younger than me. I have helped tutor students with all major subjects.
I am a patient, understanding, and considerate person. I love the sight of a child learning something after a person takes the time to show the steps. At the moment, I am unemployed throughout the week so i can meet with a child/children whenever they need me. I also can help a child through their personal problems because it is not always that a child does not understand the information; sometimes they have other things affecting their lives. I want to be able to make a difference in a child life forever.
