Love children and think that all are capable of learning!

I graduate with my BS in Middle Grades Education on Dec 20th. I am ceritifed in Math and Social Studies and will seek my certification in Language Arts in Jan 2013. I just finished my apprenticeship at a local Middle School and loved every minute of it. I seem to be closer with the students that struggle and need that extra special help.

Engaging with the student and getting them interested in the subject is of the utmost importance. If they do not care, they will not do well. Which is why making the student attracted to the subject is my first step. Once engaged, we can have fun with it. I also believe the most successful student is a hands-on student. My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a learning rich environment(a classroom reading corner full of books is ideal for this). As I approach my college graduation, I have realized how fortunate I am to have been given the opportunity to attend college. I understood the importance of understanding math in life early on and my Finance degree only validated that notion. Early this year, I began tutoring advanced math to middle school kids and found it to be a rejuvenating to see young minds eagerly waiting to be academically challenged.
