My comments on tutoring Algebra : 20 years of teaching HS and MS

15 Years as High School Math teacher and 15 years as College Instructor. ! Math is one of my top subjects! Teaching is an Art, not any person can be a good teacher. I love teaching and I consider myself as a gifted Math teacher. Because I love teaching, I was a high school AP/BC Math teacher when I was 19 years old. I succeed through many years of teaching experience to create a nice and helpful short cut which really assists students not just understanding, but to help solving the problem in a short period of time. I usually do 2 hours/session (one hour is free if HS student), this allow students/parents to see my teaching style and decide

I discuss in length the whole topic first and then try to ascertain students understanding level on the topic. Then I try to prepare a personalized strategy for each student based on his/her grasping ability. This usually involves teaching those topics again, giving home assignments to students, periodically conducting unit tests and assessing them. I undertake quiz sessions to keep a track on student's progress. I make sure that my class environment turns to be interesting for the students by maintaining a friendly approach. I have a good knowledge of mathematical problem solving shortcuts which I try to pass on to my students and I have found that this really interests even the struggling students and they feel more confident and develop flair for the subject eventually.
I have a Masters in Mathematics and another Masters in Education. I am an experienced qualified teacher with ... read more

I want to make this learning journey safe and fun while providing individual attention to the students. I will begin with a placement test and experiment for the first few sessions to see how your child learns best (games, visuals, etc). The sessions will take place in the Ashburn Library for extra supervision and the safety of the children. If allowed by parents, I will provide incentives and treats to motivate the children and lead them to a brighter future.
Session A includes biweekly sessions with two nights to complete assigned homework (up to one page). Session B includes weekly sessions with three nights to complete assigned homework (up to one page).

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I am very versed (if that is the word) in both Algebra 1 and Algebra2

Have tutored for five years with Wyzant, Tutoring Center of Herndon and on my own. My main concern is too make sure student is confortable in his/her understanding the subject material. The money part of the education of young people is really not a priority per se unless the individual student gets an understanding and hopefully confidence in taking on the subject at hand I tutor mainly in Math (Algebra, Geometry and Trig, but also Accounting, social studies, Finance, English , Reading Comp, Vocabulary
Laid back but serious as student learning subject matter is the most important factor in yuoring.

"Je suis un client de la langue française"

I believe in incorporating multiple methods of teaching language, and with such a complex topic as learning a second, or even third language I also believe in tailoring said methods to the student's specific needs. For example, if one finds a kindred with music, introducing them to french songs would be one of the stronger ways to accomplish fluency and language recognition. Depending on the student's age, I may also involve games, such as Simon Says (Simon Dit) for teaching vocabulary or even I Spy (C'est Moi L'espion).
As it relates to French Language skills, I completed 4 years of French in high school and 2 years (thus far) at Stony Brook University- currently taking 400-level courses in French Literature. In my Fall Semester of 2013, I attended the Universite de la Sorbonne (IV) as a Stofy Abroad semester, wherein I recieved my Certificate of Completion, passing High-Intermedi ... read more

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have specific teaching experience with Algebra I. I believe Algebra I is the foundational course for all other mathematics. It is even used in Geometry. Because I was certified to teach Algebra I in the state of Virginia, I could have probably called myself an expert. Others (students and teachers)have said that I make math easy to understand. Still, I believe there is always more to learn, so I will just call myself "experienced," instead. There are many people who know math, and are incredibly smart, but have no (or very limited) ability to help others learn what they know. I'm not one of those. My strength is facilitating the learning of others. I am flexible and can come at topics different ways, because I only teach what I thoroughly understand.

I have real-world experience in the United States Army--both enlisted and officer. I have real-world experience in corporate America. I completed roughly 300 college credits, so I know how to succeed in school. I taught math for a year-and-a-half in public schools. As part of my teaching, I have spent countless hours tutoring after school.
I prefer to be a facilitator. I believe in the "give a man a fish and you feed him for one day, teach the man how to fish and you feed for a lifetime." I can give you what you need to know; but I prefer to help you learn how to solve problems yourself. By giving you the tools to use what you know to solve problems, you can have the ability to figure out solutions to problems that haven't been seen before.
