I enjoy a Socratic method of questions to teach. Each student has her/his own style of learning and the Socratic allows me to home in on that style and give the student ownership of the larned material. I have ben told I have the parience of job and a "down-to-earth" way of explaination.
After graduating with a dual degree, I taught in Texas for 27 years in the fields of English, Geography, Health/PE, History, and Math. I have presented multiple times on the state level in math. After moving to Pensacola, I have tauht two years in the Florida K-12 sytem, presenting in Tallahassee in an area social studies conference, and three years in the community and junior college system. Recent tutoring includes math up to college Algebra, some physics and chemistry.

I love the written word and reaching people, so I ultimately chose to major in journalism. My love for teaching and instructing students led me to pursue my minor in education. In the past three years, I've tutored undergraduates in writing (grammar, composition, etc), graduate students (editing theses), proofing resumes and technical documents, and tutoring elementary and high school students in reading and basic math.
College students are difficult to work with because they think they know it all. Coming from a family of educators, I knew from an early age that I would become a teacher myself; therefore, all the steps taken to prepare for my professional life have been to enable me to be the best teacher I can be. I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of South Alabama. I received classroom teaching experience at a local middle school and as a university instructor. I currently have an extremely rewarding position with the Mobile Housing Board developing, coordinating, and instructing GED preparation classes. With this program I teach GED concepts and both group and individually tutor numerous students. I take pride in the fact that 100% of the students I referred to the official GED test obtained their GED.
