I am a TUTOR, ready to teach when you are WILLING to learn.

I am currently taking the English as a Secondary Language course at Benedict College so, I can be certified in teaching English across the world. In the summer of 2013 I worked at Lanier Technical College/ University of North Georgia as a ESOL Assistant Instructor. I spent my summer translating English to Spanish natives who wanted to obtain their citizenship. That's when I made my decision to go to school for that field. I have been fluent in Spanish since I was a young child. I indulge in English because its a resource that I have that so many world would die for. So I'm choosing to make a difference and travel around to the less fortunate and bless them with knowledge. As a tutor I am very strict and serious because I want to see progression and succession. I do not settle for lethargic work and, I push you to be better. I do not accept "quitting" or "giving up" due to difficulty. I w ... read more

"Don't just educate the mind, educate the heart too!"

I have been tutoring in various math, elementary, and Spanish areas for 13 years. I have tutored students from elementary school age to adults. I have also tutored students all over the US and in other coutries. I have listed all the areas that I am comfortable tutoring. I am willing to teach in a library, in the student's home, on-line, or in another area that is agreed upon by both myself and the parent. I am open to group sessions, this would require me booking a meeting room in a library, or another location. On-line is preferred if possible to reduce travel time(s), this would also allow me to assist more students in a more efficient way.
My teaching style varies by person, because not everyone learns the same way. I adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the person.

My comments on tutoring Spanish : I am in my fifth year at Wingate University. I will graduate in May of 2014 with a minor in Spanish. I have been certified by the CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) as a Level III Spanish tutor. I also work as the Supplemental Instruction Coordinator at the University, working with Spanish professors and their students during the academic year. Upon graduating high school with 2 years of the Spanish language, I placed out of Elementary Spanish at the college level and completed the requirements for my minor with Syntax and Morphology. Overall, I have had a total of 5 semesters of Spanish classes at the university level.

5 semesters of University Spanish courses 2 years of Spanish at the high school level (Basic Spanish) Level III Tutor (certified by the College Reading and Learning Association) Supplemental Instruction Coordinator - I sit in college Spanish courses each day of class and assist the professor in helping students in class. This position also involves holding a one-hour group tutoring session per week. Will graduation with a minor in Spanish in May of 2014 (classes are already completed).
I love to redirect questions rather than just giving answers. By avoiding giving answers students can learn to think on their own, develop critical thinking skills, and improve their learning techniques. I also like to use whiteboards and textbooks to provide visuals, while also using educational 'apps' via Ipad and iphone to engage students.

Having earned a bachelor's degree in Theology and Apologetics with superior academic achievement,I have challenged myself academically, and developed excellent writing and argumentative skills. I have written extensive research papers, and successfully defeated many opponents in classroom debate. I served as a tutor for Homeland Park Elementary for one year during my college career.
There have been numerous studies showing that different types of learning exist, and it is my belief that each individual student needs to be taught through adaptive teaching methodologies. I believe that everyone is unique, and each student needs to develop their own style of learning. It is the job of the educator to discover those different styles and implement a teaching method that is most advantageous to the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working and being with children. I believe that all children learn new things in their own way. I am very patient and out-going. My main goal is to motivate and provide the best teaching possible.
I have been pursing my degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of South Carolina. I chosen to take a hiatus from the University so that I can gain more experience working with young children in an educational setting. During my time at the University I gained valuable knowledge and experience with developing lesson plans, assisting teachers and interacting with young children. I want to use my academic experience and love for children and their parents. I am also looking for an environment to increase my knowledge and grow professionally. I also will be receiving my Associates Degree in Arts, May of 2010.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and showing them something new. I feel a sense of reward when a student of mine realizes that they have a new concept. When the lightbulb comes on it is the best feeling in the world. I believe that given the right tools and the right environment all students can learn anything that they put their minds to. I am not a dictator in my teaching style, more of a teammate. I work alongside students guiding them to the next step. I am a fan of I do, we do, you do. I show them how to do it, we do it together, and finally they show me that they can do it.

Since I have experience with younger children, disabled children and adults , I have applied both traditional, and non traditional teaching styles. Every student has different way to engage in a lesson, so it is a matter of finding the style that fits the individual. Usually a combination of audiovisual, hands on , curriculum integration, link to every day life and one to one approach has been a good way to help the student improve in the needed content area . It is very important to have the student take part in their own learning experience by allowing them to express their interest and likes and dislikes , this way they also become engages in the process and are more likely to enjoy a better experience.

As the youngest of three children, I always wanted a younger sibling and became the busiest baby-sitter in my town throughout middle and high school. I truly enjoy working with children and young adults and have exceptional patience and empathy for young people. I am very free spirited and enjoy having fun while showing students the amazing world of learning. Each child is different and I believe you must first build trust with the student and establish a relationship while studying their working habits and learning style.
Although new to tutoring, I have worked with children extensively and participated in peer tutoring throughout middle school and high school. I have an excellent rapport with children and young adults and my knowledge is not limited to the area of foods and nutrition. I graduated with an M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina in May of 2010. Directly after graduating, I began a career as an Academic Advisor in the Moore School of Business Undergraduate Division at the University of South Carolina. I currently still hold this job. I also taught a University 101 course to 25 incoming freshmen in the Fall of 2010. This course included helping the students get acquainted with resources on campus, learn study/time management strategies, and much more. Also, while in graduate school, I worked about 5-10 hours per week as an Academic Success Coach in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) at the University of South Carolina.
I just recently completed my first semester of teaching University 101 at the University of South Carolina. This course allowed me to find out how much I enjoy teaching. I like to be a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a senior at Benedict College obtaining my B.S. in Biology, I have gained a better understanding of the study of biology as well as other science-related subjects and math. I have been a part of the Peer-Tutoring program at Benedict since I was a freshman and have tutored in the subject of Biology.
My main goal is not to tell a student they are wrong, but to tell them how they can make the answer correct. Being that my mother is a teacher, I have picked up many of her techniques while tutoring in the peer tutoring program at my college. I believe that it helps a student more if they can be taught by someone who has a similar background to them and are similar in age. I can provide them with an easy way to learn biological concepts just as I've learned while I am in college.
