My original thought was to attend medical school (I even took the MCAT), but decided to persue a PhD in inorganic chemistry instead. I have extensive experience in working with students. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject. Most of my classes have been lecture format, but the majority of my classes also consisted of a weekly lab component. In lab, I worked one-on-one with students and aided their learning in both the lecture material and hands-on laboratory materials.
I have a bachelor's and a master's degree in Biology. I was a full time college lecturer in Biology and Anatomy&Physiology from 2004 until 2008. This past year I returned to school to obtain an MD.
