French, Math, and Arabic Tutor

I am a Native Arabic and French Speaker. I have spent the last five years teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic speakers at the American University of Sharjah. I have also worked with High school and college students tutoring Math. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and plenty of experience working in Learning centers, with tutoring companies, and privately. My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : I always have been skilled in mathematics. Throughout my entire academic career, number relationships and equations have always come pretty easily to me. I even tutored some friends in college because they were struggling. I've have been a very visual learner, so geometry and trigonometry came particularly easily to me. Having a visual aid really helps one understand the relationship between angles, triangles, area, and volume.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. Throughout my undergraduate years, I was recognized as an outstanding student and held the maximum number of teaching assistant positions every semester. I often met students in the library to hold tutoring groups, and I handed out my phone number in case someone needed my help anytime. I am currently working on my teachers certification, and my long term goal is to teach high school science. As a engineer I have been training operators in everything form SPC to troubleshooting for 30 years. I am a volunteer tutor for Adult ESL & GED for the Literacy Council of Williamson County since June 2009.
I have worked with adults. I prefer a one on one direct instruction and mentoring, keeping everything simple and fun. I am not sure how well I would be with children; I have none of my own and have not spent much time with my nephews and nieces. I graduated from UT Austin with a BS physics and BA mathematics. I still study both subjects independently to be ready for graduate school. I have held a job in both IT and Engineering where I have used my skills to mentor others on these topics. I have spoken spanish since I started speaking and CLEP'd out of Spanish IV at UT Austin with an A to meet the language requirements. I have been playing guitar since 1987. My teaching style is one focused on hands on. I set up one class in Del Mar where the students developed a Web site for an outside nonpropfit client for free in one semester. This was well received, provided good experience to students and built good relationship between education and local industry. I loved moving from working in industry with computers to be teaching how to used them. Every person learns a bit differently. Personally, I find that an individual’s feeling and attitude about subjects such as mathematics and physics can greatly impact a student's success than any other factor.I aspire to help students see how fun (and actually quite addictive) math and mathematical sciences really are. If it can become fun, it is no longer “work”. I use many analogies. Obtaining a strong conceptual understanding about a topic makes the "problem" part easier to understand and retain.
