More About This Tutor...

I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.
Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico.

I specialize in math and science. These fields have complex ideas that I know are hard to approach as a student. Often times, students fail to see the real life applications of higher level math, and this can be a frustration. I emphasize the real life examples and applications of complex math and science. I believe anyone can understand math and science if they have a patient, understanding, and insightful mentor who can break down concepts into simple steps. I try my best to do these things when teaching others.
Recently, I graduated with my BS degree in physics. This major requires a working knowledge of advanced mathematics, and its application to real life scenarios. I believe in demonstrating how to do the work and then guiding the children as they apply what has been demonstrated. The best way to learn is by doing under supervised guidance. Once the children learn to apply the proper steps to accomplish the task at hand, the feeling of accomplishment drives them to continue on their own.
I've worked as an engineer in the electronics and electrical engineering industry for 14 years. I have tutored children in math and science for the last 4 years, most recently in high school algebra and geometry.
