I will be graduating from the University of Dayton with a Master's of Education degreee and I have a Bachelor’s degree in History. I love History and want to teach Social Studies in grades 4th-9th. I have over thirty years teaching experience in the Chicago Public Schools. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, a Master of Arts degree in special education, and a Master of Divinity degree. I have taught children ages 3 - 15 and tutored youth up to age 18. I am particularly skilled at helping young children develop readiness skills.
I believe that learners are most successful when they are confident in their abilities. I generally begin by assessing a child's present independent functioning level and slowly building on that. To be honest I worked as a Substitute because I was Laid off from my job. But when I started teaching I found it was very difficult to keep control of the class and to get the students to do their work. I thought I couldn't do this anymore. I didn't quit and things did get better. I learned that most of these children were from single parent homes, and were living below the poverty level. They were scared, hungrey and tired at times, and I new I had to adjust for me to be of any help, and I did.
