I began my teaching career with the nonprofit organization, Teach For America. With my undergraduate studies completed in Anthropology and a minor in Spanish I came to the realization that my most rewarding and interesting work had been in working with students and teachers as a tutor in the public school system. So, I decided to move to a very rural location on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. There I spent the next four years as a special education teacher. I taught students with Emotional Disorders, and resoruce level classes in English and math with students with specific learning disabilities. I love to listen to what kids have to say. My teaching style is to ask a lot of questions in the attempt to get the kids to give the answers back to me. I think that it is more powerful for kids to come up with the answers themselves than to regurgitate what I have told them.
