I am very hands on. I like to first show how a problem is done, discuss the purpose of each step and then the student work the problem. From there I prefer to have students work problems and ask questions as they come up. After each problem is complete I then review the problem with the student.
As a graudate student I was a held a postion as a Graudate Research Assistant for the Geotechnical Lab. As such I taught undergraduate students the theory behind laboratory test, what each test provides the engineer and how to conduct the test. Furthermore I assisted undergraduate students with homework problems and helped them prepare for tests.

My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.
Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. The most important thing to remember when teaching a child new concepts is patience. All children learn skills in different ways. Some catch on quickly, others need more time. Even the way in which you demonstrate how a problem is solved can make a difference. I usually try several methods for solving problems rather than insist that they learn the traditional methods only. The little bit of extra time spent giving them the optional techniques could make a world of difference in their educational success.
