My comments on tutoring Physics : Took several courses as an undergraduate in physics and received A grades.

I am a former Geology student at SUNY Cortland who graduated May 2015. Throughout my career I have proven my strengths in knowing, understanding, communicating, and sharing Geology/Earth Science. In high school I took basic Earth Science earning a 100 as a grade in the class and also received a 100 grade for the NYS Regents Exam. I continued this in college graduating Magna Cum Laude with multiple appearances on the president's/dean's lists and earned several awards for success in Geology. I also was vice president of Geology Club for 2 years. Most importantly, I was a teaching assistant for the Earth Science portion of the integrated Earth Science/Biology course at SUNY Cortland for 2 semesters. In this I helped teach a wide range of students (in geology knowledge and interest) learn basic earth science principles and processes. This experience I believe truly makes me someone who can h ... read more

I have tutored at a Learning Center at Shippensburg University for the past two years. I have accumulated over 100 hours of tutoring for all collegiate math courses at the 100 level, all at the 200 level, all at the 300 level, and one at the 400 level. I have participated in over 20 hours of tutor training. Typical subjects include finite mathematics, calculus I, calculus II, calculus III, discrete mathematics, calculus-based statistics, complex analysis, precalculus, mathematical modeling, calculus-based physics, euclidean/non-euclidean geometry, asbstract algebra, linear algebra, and many more. At the Learning Center, I have achieved CRLA level II certification.
In my experiences, I have found the best way to fascilitate the learning of mathematics is through visual instruction via a whiteboard and/or blackboard. After the student sees an example of a problem done, I like to ... read more

I currently possess a bachelor’s degree in biological science from Keystone College as well as my PA Instructional Certification for Secondary Education in Biology, which I obtained from Drexel University. I meet NCLB’s Highly Qualified Teacher requirements, which means I am highly qualified to teach biology to any student in grades 7-12. I completed my student teaching at Lackawanna Trail High School where I taught 7th grade life science and 10th grade biology. Soon after this experience, I was hired as a full-time substitute biology teacher at Montrose Area High School where I taught 6 classes of biology including 10th grade college prep biology and 11th & 12th grade AP biology.
I am a firm believer that teaching style should encompass diversity of instruction and assessment because the students themselves are very diverse. I will begin each lesson with an agenda and an intended ... read more

I believe anyone can learn and their quality of knowledge improved by finding a level and rapport that works for each individually. I work patiently, with humor, and at a pace with students that helps them to feel not only comfortable but appreciated for their efforts. I consider a key ingredient to be to first find what base levels of knowledge the student has before plunging into the subject at hand. Once this base has been assessed, then it is much easier to explain the principles and methods required to solve most any problems. I try to combine the characteristics of those I have worked with and educators in my past, that I found to be the easiest to learn from, and as well to not feel patronized or talked down to.
I retired from IBM February 2010 after 31 years and my new goal is to be an educator. I did custom circuit logic design for numerous products and conducted educ ... read more

While working for Professor Weiss at the Pennsylvania State University as an undergraduate researcher for four years, I gained experience in scanning tunneling microscopy, self-assembled monolayers, molecular electronics, and nanotechnology generally. I independently designed and carried out experiments relating to thermodynamics, scanning tunneling microscopy, and self-assembled monolayers. I was a part of other research projects involving the same, as well as nanoparticles, molecular electronics, and surface catalysis. Also , I was an active chemistry tutor, officially and unofficially.
I believe I have a talent for taking a complex subject, and simplifying it in such a way that anyone can understand it. That is how I was able to successfully tutor many fellow students since high school. It is also how I managed to do well enough myself in science classes.

I take pride in discerning each student's learning style and then teaching them in the most effective manner. I am a firm believer that all people are teachable, and that no real method is ultimately the best, but that the approach should be tailored to what the student is good at.
I have three degrees, Masters in Biochemistry, B.A. in Biology, and an Associates Degree in Business Administration. Currently, I am involved in marketing for a law firm, and am responsible for writing Excel programs for customer tracking, website SEO, and generally raising the profile of the business, and analysis. I have been responsible for training many people, and am particulary good at training young people for the SAT. I am applying for the job I found on-line of full time science instructor, and I believe I can bring a practical as well as theoretical background to this position.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from Eastern University as a double major in accounting and finance. My courses in investments, finance, accounting and business have given me a solid base upon which I plan to build my career. I have a strong knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc. During my college career I was a tutor for the entire business department tutoring all accounting and finance classes along with select business classes. Not only did I excel in tutoring but as the TA for finance had taken over teaching for three weeks as the professor became ill. The experience allowed me to learn important skills and to develop the confidence needed to succeed in a competitive environment.
As a tutor at Eastern University I came to the realization that not all students learned in the same way. I have a different teaching style as compared to the teachers putting things into real life ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)
My love of mathematics began while I was in elementary school--I looked forward to those classes and took as many as I could from my high school, Wyoming Area. I had, at one point in middle school, helped to tutor some students in one of my classes. While in college at Susquehanna University ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate at Penn State, I became interested in education through positive experiences with my own teachers. At this time, I was an active high school volleyball coach, an environmental science teaching assistant, and an environmental science camp counselor. Earning a BS in Biology grounded my content knowledge in both Biology and Science and propelled my education in writing, lab experience, field experience, and technology. Furthermore, I enrolled at King's College to solidify my knowledge of teaching and education and received PA Certification in Secondary Biology.
I have found teaching to be the most fulfilling and challenging experience of my life thus far. Each classroom environment and student is dynamic and different. My experience working with students from ages 10-25 has showed me the various ways that students learn and has challenged me to become an effec ... read more
