This month I graduated from Southeastern University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in history. My goal is to engage each and every student in the classroom in some aspect of the lesson being conducted. Perhaps I can relate the lesson to experiences in their own lives, or I can tap into their knowledge of, or interest in, a particular subject. Students will not be interested in any lesson if the teacher does not care if they are interested. Students should not be dull-eyed receivers of information that a teacher is megaphoning over their heads: they should be participators in all aspects of the learning process.
The only teaching experience I have is the student teaching I did at Andrews High School in High Point in 1993 as part of the teaching program at UNC-Greensboro. For several months I taught American Literature and Composition. I have also conducted training classes on new procedures in previous jobs.
