I have been very busy this last year, but now have a little bit more time to do tutoring. I have a PhD in Special Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education and children with language and literacy-related difficulties. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."
I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.

I have noticed over the years that many students can identify their specific needs when it comes to learning. I see myself as a facilitator in helping students to learn while keeping in mind the different learning styles: visual, aural, kinesthetic. I combine discipline with a sense of humor (which I think is essential especially when students become anxious about a new class or a subject in which they have difficulty). I act as a guide as well as provider of information to students.
