My comments on tutoring Speaking : Speech was my Minor in undergraduate school, and I did well in it.

I believe it is important that people learn at their own pace, and I like to give students the tools and guidance to figure out things on their own.
I have worked as a teacher in many capacities. I was a Dance Instructor at various studios, and I taught Communication Studies as a Graduate Instructional Assistant at Texas State University in San Marcos. I have more than 10 years of professional experience in a variety of occupations from tutoring, mentoring and supervising to doing extensive research, grading papers and tests, and preparing lesson plans. I have held numerous positions in the theater, media and communications field as well.

Having obtained a Communications degree from college, I was quite driven to help students who faced challenges in the areas of reading/writing. Further, I had extensive experience in Title I and Reading Labs, even on the college campus where I studied. Later, I earned my Master's degree and did research to assist me in understanding the pervasive issue of a higher incidence of language difficulties faced by these students versus that realized in Math. During the past years, I have taught high school and college English courses to students who have been identified as needing assistance in Reading and writing. A Little Bit About Me...

I teach a hands on curriculum as much as possible. I constantly have visuals, or hands on manipulatives to helps students gain a better understanding. I believe that it's important to understand students' learning styles, and try to teach in a manner that "taps" into the various styles. I put a lot of pride into my career as a teacher, and am determined not to give up on students. Often I feel that such a great factor in a child's success is their self esteem. I am a strong believer in teaching through examples and letting students try to apply the knowledge I have taught them at various smaller stages, then apply it to the bigger picture. I love working with kids, and I think that with patience, understanding, and time, all students are capable of reaching their potential.
As an undergraduate, I attended Purdue University and worked as a teaching assistant where I ran my own lab, instructing students for one of their core management courses. In my junior year, I was asked to apply to an invitation-only program for an an accelerated MBA program only for exceptional students. I am now entering my final year of this program and will graduate in 2011 with a BS in Business Management and a Masters degree in Business Administration.
