I taught a semester of Elementary French at Ohio University in Athens. I am always willing to tutor any subject, but my greatest academic strength lie in language learning. My teaching style is very patient, kind, and laid back. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn and finish the work they are given, so I very rarely tell someone how to finish a problem or correct a sentence. Instead, I give suggestions of things to think about and ask a lot of questions so that the student can get to the answer themselves. I will gladly point them in the right direction but hesitate to ever point to the answer as I feel the lesson is very easily lost. I see a power in one-on-one teaching/learning and therefore have a great appreciation for tutoring.
A large part of earning my B.A. in Business Management consisted of writing reports and papers for everything from English to Market Research. I like to teach using different strategies and methods, because I know all the students in the classroom are not going to learn the same way. I feel it is best to fully understand my content and standards. Then create lessons to teach the students in a way they will learn the material best for them. I teach using various methods: hands-on, kinesthetic, real life learning, music, incorporating other contents and likes, while still creating a routine for structure. I have taught 7th grade science for one year, 2 years 7th grade math, and a year of 9-10 grade Pre-Algebra, 11-12 Consumer Math, and an 8th grade math class. I would stay after school and tutor students that were having problems in my class.
I have worked with children the majority of my teen and adult life. I was a camp counselor where I was around them for a week and that's where my love for wanting to teach began.
